Maria Neider

Maria grew up in the small town of Healdsburg, Calif., just north of San Francisco in the wine country of Sonoma County. She says working in her family’s vineyard alongside her two younger brothers taught her good work ethic and the value of a dollar.

Maria earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Penn. She helped produce and anchor the first college newscast at WSVB-TV.

Maria started her professional TV career behind the scenes in the Engineering Department at WTAE in Pittsburgh, Penn., where she ran robotic cameras and audio for the evening newscasts. Eventually, she made a transition to associate producer and realized how much she missed writing and reporting.

She left the Steel City to report and produce at cable station 6 News in Lawrence, Kan., where she also produced and anchored the local CNN Headline cut-ins. From there she moved to KTKA in Topeka, where she produced and anchored the 5 p.m. news.

Maria then rejoined her family in Tucson, Ariz., where they moved to enjoy the warm desert life. She worked as a reporter and anchor at KGUN. While there, she received a First Place award in a statewide competition sponsored by The Associated Press for her live reporting of the Aspen wildfire that devastated a mountaintop community. She also covered the longest prison standoff in recent U.S. history at the Lewis complex near Buckeye, Ariz. Storm chasing and weather coverage are her other big favorites from that job.

Maria was married in September 2005.  Her husband, Scott, is a director/technical director at KY3.  They enjoy spending time outdoors and trying to keep up with their Jack Russell terrier, Pico.  They welcomed their first child on June 14, 2007 and their second child on April 3, 2009.

Maria is a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan and is excited to be back in the Midwest. She says it didn’t take long for Springfield to feel like home after she arrived at KY3 in late March 2005.
