Contact KY3 reporter, Monday-Thursday

Cara Restelli

By Gene Hartley

After more than five years in the Ozarks, I now call Springfield home. And what better place to do it? I still can’t get over what wonderful, friendly people live in the Ozarks. Following the birth of my daughter, Avery Rose, in April 2007, my husband Brad and I are proud to start a family here. This wasn’t always home though. I grew up in the Chicago area. In 2000, I graduated from the University of Illinois (go Illini!) with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. After graduation, I did a two-year stint at WIFR in Rockford, Ill., as a reporter and weekend anchor. In 2002, I made my way to KY3 News as the early morning field reporter for Ozarks Today. While I loved the stories and the people I met, I hated getting up so early! Thank goodness, a little more than a year later, I switched to the afternoon and evening shift, before finally taking over the Contact KY3 Consumer Investigative Unit in 2006. Investigative reporting is my true passion. I am proud to have received several Missouri Broadcasters Association Awards, a regional Radio-Television News Directors Association Murrow Award and a Mid-America Emmy Award for various investigations, ranging from school bus stop arm safety to problems uncovered at area nursing homes. I have to admit, however, my proudest moment was being named an honorary firefighter by the Springfield Fire Department for reports I have done relating to fire safety. While the recognition is great, the reason I come to work every day is to produce stories that protect your money, families, and lives. If you have a consumer complaint or other story you’d like me to investigate, feel free to email me at crestelli@ky3.com.
