LOCATION: 4600 State Highway 165 (at Table Rock Dam), Branson
SUMMARY The new Dewey Short Visitors Center at Table Rock Lake will over a dynamic view of the lake, while offering a look back at Ozarks history.
A highlight of the new three-story facility will be a new observation deck. Inside, visitors will also have access to a 90-seat theater, Ozarks heritage museum, and retail shop. All of the features will sit behind a glass facade overlooking the lake and surrounding bluffs. The center will also serve as the origination point for trolleys transporting visitors to and from Table Rock Dam for tours.
The 15,000 square-foot facility is being constructed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers, but will be operated by the Ozarks Rivers Heritage Foundation. The current Dewey Short center, built in 1975, will be remodeled to provide additional administrative space for the corps.
COST: $7.9-million (partially funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act)
COMPLETION: Spring 2012
