Off camera, Steve Grant has passed the ketchup to former President Nixon at a Caribbean café’… prayed The Lord’s Prayer with Pope John Paul II during a private audience… hugged by Paul Harvey (as personal thanks from the famous news commentator’s wife Angel)… and received prayer beads from the Dalai Lama after the Tibetan spiritual leader’s Arkansas visit in 2011.
On camera, he is all about “what people want to know, and need to know.” Steve belongs to that school of broadcast journalists who believe ‘everybody has a story.’ As one of the most experienced, reliable and trusted news anchors in the Ozarks, he lives his childhood dream with every newscast and report.
Finding, covering and introducing the interesting lives, greatest struggles, and best days of people across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas drives his work and all of the KY3 newsteam. Over the years, his assignments have taken him to every city, town and county in the viewing area. As a traveling correspondent, he has reported from New York City,Washington, D.C., Hollywood and the Vatican.
Steve started anchoring and reporting for KY3 just after his 20th birthday, bringing his radio days in high school to the news desk. Among his professional awards, his most cherished honors are being named “Distinguished Alumnus of Evangel University” in 2010, and receiving an honorary doctorate from the College of the Ozarks in 2012. Over the years, his work has been commended by the Missouri Broadcasters Assocation, Associated Press, Kansas City Press Club, and the Mid-America Chapter of the "Emmy" awards.
He embraces and believes in faith and volunteering for church and community, most recently as the ‘face’ for Ozarks Honor Flight. The Springfield-based chapter flew almost 1,300 WWII veterans to their Memorial in our nation’s capital on 16 flights. By all accounts, OHF was the most successful chapter in the US by the final flight on June 6th, 2012, the 68th anniversary of D-Day. Steve was one of the founding board members of 'The Kitchen' to seek and serve the homeless, and is in his 10th year on the board of trustees for Springfield Workshop.
It’s not all seriousness all the time. He once donned a chicken suit and with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils belted out “Chicken Train” to open a hometown concert.
