Dance best bet: 'The Nutcracker,' with TV intrigue

The first week of December is a delightful time to catch Ballet West's production of the classic holiday ballet, which New York Times critic Alastair Macaulay described as "one of the three best discoveries" of his grueling, coast-to-coast, 27-"Nutcracker" tour.

And Utah's premier troupe hasn't performed a full-length show at the Kennedy Center for more than two decades.

Admit it: You became addicted to "Breaking Pointe," this summer's reality show on the CW Network that showcased the lives of six of the company's dancers. You want to see for yourself if rising star Beckanne Sisk has begun breathing down the neck of the company's seasoned pros. You want to judge whether Ronnie Underwood has the stuff to become a principal dancer. And you want to speculate on the will-they-or-won't-they relationship between soulful Rex Tilton and driven perfectionist Allison DeBona.

Imagine: all that intrigue, and sugarplums too.
