The loss of Nick Markakis (pictured) is a major setback for a team that was just starting to look like a legitimate offensive force in the tight American League East. Markakis had been one of the league's hottest hitters since taking over the leadoff spot and now will be lost for the rest of the regular season. That means that streaky Chris Davis will have to move back to the outfield and the Orioles will have to work very hard to maintain a cohesive attack. Losing Markakis also is a big defensive hit for a team that seemed to have gotten its defensive act in order, and his injury obscured a very productive week for all the outfielders. Adam Jones batted .393 with 11 hits, three homers and six RBIs, and Nate McLouth had the second highest average on the team (.381). |
