JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound

JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound is the latest band out of Chicago that we can brag about having made it to the big time. Performing with Mavis Staples, a SXSW show, blowing up the radio airwaves from NPR to AAA, a show-stopping cover of Wilco's "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" (including a performance at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival with Jeff Tweedy), these Bloodshot Records boys are the next big thing already.

Why go: According to the post-punk band's website, for "Six and a half feet of raw emotion and sweat, with one leather boot planted in gutsy R&B, the other in taut minimalist grind."

Reconsider: JCBUS has gotten too showy for you now that the band has been picked for the Lollapalooza roster.
