Engelhardt family

Four members of the Engelhardt family were stabbed on Friday, April 17, 2009. The Engelhardt family is, (clockwise from top left) Alan, Shelly, Jeff, Amanda and Laura (in the middle). Alan, 57,  Laura, 18, and Laura's grandmother, Marlene Gacek, 73, (not in this photo) died as a result of their injuries. Engelhardt's mother, Shelly, is in critical condition. The victims were stabbed in the family home in <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100501680000" title="Hoffman Estates" href="/topic/us/illinois/cook-county/hoffman-estates-PLGEO100100501680000.topic">Hoffman Estates</a>, authorities said. D'Andre Howard, 20, a man who had a relationship with Amanda, has been charged with their slayings.
