The Tylenol murder victims

The "<a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="HEDAR000002157160" title="Tylenol (drug)" href="/topic/health/drugs-medicines/tylenol-%28drug%29-HEDAR000002157160.topic">Tylenol</a> murders" began the morning of Sept. 29, 1982, when 12-year-old Mary Kellerman of Elk Grove Village, a 7th grader at Schaumburg's <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEHST000014" title="Jane Addams" href="/topic/social-issues/social-conditions/jane-addams-PEHST000014.topic">Jane Addams</a> Junior High School, gulped down two Tylenol capsules for a head cold before heading to class. Before anyone could help her, she was dead.<br>

The same morning, postal worker Adam Janus, 27, of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100501040000" title="Arlington Heights" href="/topic/us/illinois/cook-county/arlington-heights-PLGEO100100501040000.topic">Arlington Heights</a>, died after taking two tainted Tylenol capsules. Mary Reiner, 27, a new mother in Winfield, was the next to die. Then came 31-year-old Mary McFarland, who worked in the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100500000000" title="Illinois" href="/topic/us/illinois-PLGEO100100500000000.topic">Illinois</a> Bell Phone Center in Lombard. That evening, Janus' grief-stricken brother and sister-in-law, Stanley, 25, and Theresa, 19, died after taking Tylenol at Adam Janus' house after driving in from Lisle to make funeral arrangements for him.<br>

The seventh victim was flight attendant Paula Jean Prince, 35, who was found dead in her Chicago home on Oct. 1, 1982.
