Some automakers got an early Christmas gift on Thursday morning, along with millions of drivers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded 82 new vehicles as its Top Safety Picks for 2017.
Of those 82 vehicles, 33 of them earned the even higher rating of Top Safety Pick Plus, for earning good ratings in five crash test evaluations. And for having effective features that can prevent crashes, like automatic braking systems, and headlights that were rated at least acceptable.
Toyota led the pack, with nine of its 2017 models making the list. Honda had five.
To see if your car made the list, you can see the complete list of this year's winners, at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's website at www.iihs.org (see link at right).
