Shooting injures man near Mercy Hospital in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) -- Police say a man is hospitalized after a shooting near Mercy Hospital on Thursday morning. He apparently drove his bullet-riddle car to the emergency room about 10 a.m. It was surrounded by crime tape until a tow truck hauled it away about 1 p.m.

Police say there is no threat to the public. Police believe the man's injuries are non-life threatening. Investigators believe the shooting is targeted. Shell casings were in the street.

Police closed University Street at Fremont Avenue, a block north of Sunshine Street, to process the crime scene until about 11:30.

As of late Thursday afternoon, police were still looking for the shooter, and a dark-colored, or black Dodge, that is believed to be his vehicle.
