Brothers credit dog for saving their lives in Springfield home invasion

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Police are investigating a reported home invasion in west Springfield.

The incident happened Monday morning in the 2600 block of West Monroe. Police say two inside the home said they heard banging at the door, then saw several gunshots fired through a bedroom door. The brothers told police someone then kicked the door.

Police say the family's pit bull then attacked them. Police say the dog was shot once, but is expected to live. The brothers say the dog saved their lives.

The two men remain on the run.
