SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Thousands of books are on sale inside the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex for this years Friends of the Library Book Sale.
The semi-annual sale runs through Sunday and features many different types of books, games, movies and other media.
"There's a lot of history here in these books. [We have] a lot of beautiful children's books, games, puzzles, crafts, gardening and genealogy [books], whatever your interests are we have a wide variety of books for you," said Shirley Lawler, Friends of The Library President-Elect.
It's arranged by the Friends of The Library, a volunteer board that supports Springfield- Greene County Libraries. This sale is one of their biggest fundraisers. The money raised goes towards helping fund many of the library's special projects and programs.
"Summer reading programs, music programs, keynote speakers; The community benefits because every penny goes back to the Greene County library to in turn provide programs for you, a resident of Greene County," Lawler explained.
Proceeds from previous Friends of the Library book sales helped the group make a half million dollar contribution to the Renew Brentwood Campaign to help with major renovations to Springfield's Brentwood Library Branch. In 2011 the Friends for the Library District purchased the Mobile Library using book sale funds.
