SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) Hundreds of demonstrators filled downtown Springfield Sunday afternoon for a 'Love Trumps Hate' rally.

The event, published on Facebook by Simone Cook, began at 2:00 p.m. on Park Central Square.

"We will feature a variety of speakers, performers, artists, as well as time for prayer and/or meditation," read a Facebook post promoting the event. "Together we are going to heal and express solidarity in face of the turbulence that has arisen from this election season."

Springfield police took one counter protester into custody on a charge of resisting arrest.

Hundreds of demonstrations, some of which have turned violent, have been held across the country since November 9. Sunday's rally was the first organized demonstration in Springfield since the presidential election.
