Nixa food pantry asks for donations to keep up with growing needs

NIXA, Mo. (KY3) -- Kristy Carter is Director of Development at Least of These food pantry in Nixa.

The pantry serves about 900 families every month.

"Most of the families we're seeing are working, they have someone in the household that's working, just not able to make it all work out," says Carter.

The pantry always plans for a holiday surge, but this year, the number of people who need help with groceries is way bigger than expected.

"We are seeing an increase of 10 to 30 new families every week," says Carter.

So after your holiday shopping on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, please don't forget Giving Tuesday.

Carter says right now, the pantry especially needs money donations.

The pantry is able to stretch each dollar further, to buy more food at a cheaper price than you can find in a store. That means for each dollar you donate, they can feed more people than if you spent that dollar and donated the purchased food.

The other benefit of money donations to a food pantry is they can buy precisely what's most needed.

Carter says every dollar counts.

"Yeah, I'll take whatever we can get!" Carters says, "The more money we get, the more people we can help."
