SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A severe thunderstorm pounded downtown Springfield Friday night. And hit as the city celebrated its Route 66 heritage.

The storm dumped heavy rain on the streets during the city's annual 'Birthplace of Route 66 Festival' parade. It sent thousands along the street to seek shelter underneath tents or in restaurants along the parade route.

The inclement weather led to the cancelation of Friday night's events after the parade.
