Taste of the Ozarks recipe: Caramelized onion beef sliders (7/27/17)

Caramelized onion beef sliders


-- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
-- 1 large red onion, sliced
-- 2 tablespoons of butter
-- 2 tablespoons or olive oil or grape seed oil
-- 1 pound of sliced roast beef
-- 1 pound of sliced Swiss or provolone cheese
-- 12 large dinner rolls, cut lengthwise to make one large top bun and one large bottom bun
-- 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
-- 2 teaspoons of poppy seeds
-- 8 ounces of melted butter
-- 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds
-- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce


-- In a medium saucepan, combine oil, 2 tablespoons of butter, onions and fennel seeds
-- Cook over medium high heat until onions are dark brown and caramelized
-- Add salt to taste
-- Put large bottom bun into a 9 x 13 pan
-- Cover bottom bun with a layer of either Swiss or provolone cheese
-- Cover cheese with layer of sliced roast beef
-- Cover sliced roast beef with sautéed caramelized onions
-- Cover onions with another layer of cheese and top with large top bun
-- Combine 8 ounces of melted butter with the Dijon mustard, poppy seeds and Worcestershire sauce
-- Whisk sauce together and pour over large sandwich
-- Cut along the lines of individual rolls
-- Refrigerate for one hour or overnight
-- Place in 350-degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes
-- Remove from oven and serve
