GREENE COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) Firefighters say a wood burning stove is to blame for a fire that seriously damaged a home east of Springfield on Saturday night.

Crews were called to the home in the 4600 block of E. Farm Rd. 170 after the homeowner saw smoke coming from the attic. The homeowner told crews on scene that they had used the stove throughout the day to keep warm. Investigators say the fire started in the flue system.

Eight fire departments responded to the call. It took firefighters nearly an hour to get the flames under control. Nobody was injured.
