SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A dispute at a homeless camp led to a fire on Wednesday morning in some woods northwest of Park Central Square. One of the two people in the argument set fire to a couple of tents in the camp, which is near Phelps Street at Fort Avenue, about 9:30.

Springfield Fire Marshal Bill Spence ticketed that woman for negligent burning. The other person in the argument didn't want to press charges, so Spence couldn't have her held for a possible felony charge, but police removed her from the camp to be processed for the municipal charge.
Firefighters quickly got the fire under control and kept it from spreading to even more tents around the camp. The camp is near some railroad tracks but it's not clear who owns the property. A fire at the camp started again shortly before 1 p.m., and firefighters and police again responded there.
