( Antonio Perez/Chicago Tribune ) Several big names announced they were leaving Chicago. This group included Playboy Enterprises Inc., which said in December that the magazine's editorial, art and photo departments were moving to the company's Los Angeles office. Chicago gave up other media talent to New York: Early morning anchor Zoraida Sambolin, sports anchor Paula Faris and meteorologist Ginger Zee all departed WMAQ-Ch. 5 for new gigs in the Big Apple. Sambolin headed to CNN, and Faris and Zee decamped for ABC. Some Chicago icons also made news. The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. sold its famous skyscraper to a group of investors headed by BDT Capital Partners and will move its remaining 200 employees from the Wrigley Building to its Goose Island campus by the end of 2012. And Oprah Winfrey ended her 25-year daytime run with a celebrity-packed valedictory event in May at the United Center. |
