The only thing we have this week is the promising-looking rehash of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and once-promising Eddie Murphy in Imagine That. Imagine that, indeed.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 tells the story of a train dispatcher, as played by Denzel Washington, who gets thrust into a hostage situation. An armed gunman is played by John Travolta, who has a goatee so you know he's bad.

For reasons only known to the screenwriter, Travolta's character requires Washington's character to deliver his ransom. This will inevitably lead to some real mano-a-mano tension.

The film is directed by Tony Scott, who loves a good, slick image and includes a pretty impressive supporting cast, including James Gandolfini and John Turturro. Don't worry about this being a remake because the 1974 original wasn't that good anyway.

This film is rated R for violence and pervasive language.

Imagine That stars Murphy (When was the last time he made a movie about which anyone was excited?) as a business executive who is in a bit of a slump. So what does he do? He relies on his daughter's imaginary world where imaginary characters start giving him advice about what to do with his career. Huh?

Is this a documentary on AIG or Chrysler? Evidently, all of this works out and all the adults learn about how important a child's fantasy world can be.

If your kids are absolutely desperate for entertainment, Imagine That is rated PG for some mild language and brief questionable behavior. And I have no idea what that means.
