The Springfield/Greene County Park Board has announced its "Movies in the Park" series, a now-annual event where - starting at dusk - films with a family edge are projected onto the concrete surroundings of Founders Park at Water Street and Jefferson Avenue near downtown Springfield.

This summer will be no different with this summer, beginning on July 10th with the classic "Singin' in the Rain." The whole schedule is here: http://www.springfieldmo.gov/founders/movies.html

Some of the flicks leave a lot to be desired (Do we REALLY need to see "Madagascar 2" at the park when most of its target audience has it on DVD at home?) but any opportunity to get people downtown, in a park, and watching a movie is commendable. The whole atmosphere of this event has always been a lot of fun and people of all sorts are there as a big community. If you're looking for a cool event on the weekends this summer, go check it out.
