Hollywood is going all out for the Independence DAy weekend with Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs for the kids, and adult guys and gals can enjoy lots with the gangster flick Public Enemies.
Dawn of the Dinosaurs is the third Ice Age movie. This time it's in 3-D. Manny - otherwise known as the mastodon voiced by Ray Romano - is trying to start a family. Diego - otherwise known as the saber-toothed tiger voiced by Denis Leary - wants to be more than an exotic house cat. Sid - otherwise known as the weird creature voiced by John Leguizamo - steals a bunch of dinosaur eggs and that leads to all sorts of 3-D adventures.
These films have always had a clever, social edge and this one fits in nicely. For the kids, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaur is rated PG for some mild rude humor and peril.
Public Enemies is based largely on the exploits of John Dillinger as played here by Johnny Depp. While he robs banks and woos hotties like Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, FBI agent Melvin Purvis - as played by Batman/John Conner - is hot on his trail.
As with most real-life stories, we know the ending. But, thanks to director Michael Mann, getting to the end is all the phone with lots of great acting and thrills galore. Hands down, it's the best time for older audiences this summer.
Public Enemies is rated R for gangster violence and some language.
