One new offering is the classic children's book-turned-flick Where the Wild Things Are, as well as the hard-core vigilante celebration Law-Abiding Citizen.

Where the Wild Things Are is based on Maurice Sendak's classic children's book that tells the story of young Max, who is banished to him room. To escape, he creates an imaginary world inhabited by The Wild Things. Desperate for leadership, these weird and woolly beasts deem Max king.

This is the basic thrust of the book but the film version benefits strongly from the fantastically innovative director Spike Jonze -- better known for music videos and Being John Malkovich -- as well as novelist Dave Eggers helping on the screenplay. In addition to a dazzling look, Where the Wild Things Are boasts strong vocal talent from the likes of James Gandolfini and Catherine O'Hara.

You can expect a kids' film that everyone can truly enjoy. The film is rated PG for mild thematic elements, some adventure action and brief language.

Law-Abiding Citizen is another film in a long list that thinks one individual's idea of justice is far superior to the judicial system. An inventor, as played by Gerald Butler, and his family are the victims of a home invasion. Instead of seeking maximum sentences, the district attorney, as played by Jamie Foxx, cuts a deal, much to the dismay of our film's hero.

The inventor then proceeds to wreck mayhem and destruction among those he sees responsible for this injustice. What's interesting is that his actions cause far more pain than what he was supposedly fighting against.

Audiences seem to enjoy this type of odd, antisocial behavior and Hollywood is banking on just that. Law-Abiding Citizen is rated R for strong bloody brutal violence and torture, a scene of rape, and pervasive language.
