I hope you're already in line for Twilight: New Moon as it has sold
out almost every theater here in town. If you're not 12, or not
creepy, you can always check out The Blind Side.
New Moon, the second book of Stephanie Meyers'
Twilight series is now the second film in this "saga" as mortal Bella, as played by
Kristen Stewart, is getting used to dating vampire Edward, as played
by Brit dreamboat Robert Pattinson. Of course, this goes awry quickly
and Edward's seemingly normal and functioning vampire family moves
Edward away to avoid the heartbreak.
Bella freaks out, parties too much, and then falls into the arms of Jacob, as played by Taylor Lautner. Of course, he turns out to be a werewolf. Ladies, these guys are just too much, aren't they?
The first film had some nice angst flourishes so it will be interesting to see if the filmmakers put any effort into this money machine. New Moon is rated PG-13 for some violence and action.
The Blind Side is another entry into the Great White Hope category
as blonde Southern belle Sandra Bullock sorta adopts this really
quiet, really gigantic black teenager, as played by newcomer Quintin
Aaron. She, of course, turns this poor weirdo into a football-playing
dynamo and learns a little about herself and her family along the way.
Conservatives can champion the stereotypes and liberals can dish out
the condescending racism with this type of story. It also stars Tim
McGraw as the man who has to put up with Bullock's character. The film is rated PG-13 for one scene involving brief violence, drug and sexual references.
