Historical Highlights

  • Early Life

    • Carroll reared on an Iowa farm—after high school graduation continued with farming for 10 years.

  • January, 1968 to October, 1969 – Elms Motel, O’Neill, Nebraska

    • Ralph Frost of Omaha, Nebraska (motel broker) helped Carroll and Janice to locate their first property, the Elms Motel of O’Neill

    • Carroll helped coach the boys’ baseball team while there

  • 1969 to 1972

    • Returned to Iowa

    • Rented a farm

    • Carroll sold Fords as a sideline

    • Chris Myer born in 1970

  • 1972 to 1974

    • Purchase of The
      Branson Motor Court
      on Business 65

      • Sold property when Highway 65 was going to bypass this location

    • Purchased NormanDee Friendship Inn in Rolla, Missouri .

      • Carroll obtained his real estate license while there

      • Sold the NormanDee after only four months

    • 1974 - Purchased the Best Western Platte Valley Inn and Restaurant, Julesburg, Colorado

      • Built a new home there for the family which we never got to live in.

      • Encountered the worst blizzard there in 20 years

      • Gail Myer graduated from high school in Julesburg, Colorado .

  • 1976 to 1988

    • Purchased Ramada Inn and Bowen’s Restaurant, Harrison, Arkansas

      • Carroll named “Innkeeper of the Year” by Ramada

      • Elvis Presley stayed at the Ramada Inn when in Harrison

      • Was the first person in Northwest Arkansas to install direct dial phones

      • Carroll served as President of the Arkansas Lodging Association

      • Myers raised Charolais cattle

      • Carroll learned to fly an airplane

  • 1978 to 1982

    • Purchased the Best Western Carriage Inn and Restaurant, Mountain Home, Arkansas

    • Carroll served as Best Western Governor

  • 1983 to Present

    • Purchased the Best Western Knights Inn and Country Kitchen on Highway 76 (changed the name to the Best Western Center Pointe Inn in 2000).

      • Added an indoor pool in 1989 (first indoor pool in Branson)

      • Added additional rooms in two different expansion projects (now has 164 rooms)

  • 1986 to 1991

    • Purchased the Ramada Inn and Restaurant, Fayetteville, Arkansas

      • Completely renovated this property

  • 1992

    • Built and opened the Comfort Inn at Thousand Hills

  • 1993

    • Built and opened the Best Western Music Capital Inn on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway

  • 1998

    • Purchased the Cinnamon Inn on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway.

      • Converted to Rodeway franchise and then to Comfort Inn

      • Now known as the Comfort Inn West

  • Late 1990’s

    • Purchased a ranch at Mount Vernon, Missouri to raise cattle

    • Sold the ranch in 1999

  • 2001

    • Built and opened the Comfort Inn and Suites at Branson Meadows on
      Gretna Road

  • Present

    • Carroll and Janice Myer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007 and presently reside on 40 acres outside of Harrison, Arkansas .
