With a title like “The Christening,” there isn’t too much mystery about what went down in last night’s episode of The Office. The entire crew heads to church for baby Cece’s big day, Michael tries to claim his position as world’s favorite uncle (or godfather, as it were) and Jim has to grapple with a poopy white gown.
It’s standard Office material – you know, the everyday awkwardness that makes you giggle, as long as you’re not involved. Solid, as usual, but we’re pretty uninspired by the generic material. This post may be underwhelming as well, but hey, we can only work with the goods we’re given.
Ever wonder what would happen if Michael Scott found God? Look no further – we have the answer to your prayers.
Michael (no, not Jim and Pam) invites the entire office to Cece’s christening. Why? Because it’s not just about Jim, or Pam, or the baby, or himself. It’s about all of them, and Michael just thought that everyone should celebrate his joy (please note, again, not Jim and Pam’s). However, Michael is shocked to learn that Pam and Jim have chosen another couple to be Cece’s godparents. We assume Pam felt she made the right decision when she couldn’t tell whether or not Michael thought he was the godfather or ‘The Godfather.’
No one wants Michael to be their baby’s godfather. No one wants chill with Michael outside of work, and do worthy things like help Africans or send a team to regionals. (Cheerleading team? Football team? We’re curious!) Feeling unloved, Michael decides to hop on a bus to Mexico with the youth ministry that semi-hijacked Cece’s christening, ditching his job and instructing his employees to tell clients that he “died and turned into an angel.” Andy joins the holy crew as part of his never-ending attempt to win back Erin’s heart.
And that’s how Michael Scott left The Office.
Just kidding! After about an hour on the bus, Michael and Andy decide they’re not cut out for manual labor or half-birthdays in Mexico, so they harass the bus driver until he sets them free. Mr. Scott, you tease.
But wait! There’s more:
- Andy confesses that he wants a whole box of Nardpups. Erin, are you listening??
- Dwight discovers that church services are a prime networking opportunity. He hands out his business card prior to the service and hijacks a prayer to promote a deal on paper and printers.
- Jim loses Cece and hears that she has been taken by a “small blonde lady.” Who else but Angela? Kevin comes to Jim’s aid, attacks Angela and discovers that she hasn’t stolen a baby…no, it’s something much worse. Scones. It’s like a mouse trying to snatch an elephant’s lunch. Good luck surviving that one, sister.
- Toby to God: “Why you always gotta be so mean to me?” Wait – are we supposed to laugh at that one?
