While station at Ft Ord CA. in the early 90s, my own daughter did her rebellion thing....She was hand cuffed to a stop-sign for about an hour......My point was made, My daughter turned out fine....Wonder how Dr Phil would label me? If we as parents do not step up and raise our children to respect and love others...Who will. My daughter has 3 children of her own now and they know mom's word is law and any disrespect is not tolerated for any reason. The result is well mannered and loving children....... Some lessons cant be taught,...they have to be learned.
This guy would deserve a medal if what he did wasn't what everyone should be doing. I don't mean specifically shooting computer equipment, but showing kids that parents will not allow children to walk all over them. What this guy did may not solve the problems with his daughter but I am certain that she will think twice before invoking the anger of her family by being bad. Too many push over parents out there that kids do not fear and decide to just run wild. Love your kids, be fair with them, give them clear rules, but let them know that Mom and Dad might just go a bit crazy on them if they go too far.
He paid for the laptop - if he wants to put a bullet through it, that's completely his business. I work with teenagers - if you want to discuss crappy parenting, let's talk about all the parents I see every day who are too busy chasing their oh-so-important careers, their 2nd and 3rd marriages, luxurious houses, status-symbol cars and their own vanity to take the time to teach their kids to have respect for authority, work hard and take responsibility for their actions. Being your kid's best friend or buddy is easy. Being an effective parent is HARD. It sounds like this guy knows the meaning of hard work and wants his daughter to be prepared for the sometimes harsh realities of adult life. Kudos to Mr. Jordan!
