Your Fitness Stories; A Buddy Motivates Me to Get Up and Go
I would love to say that I started running because I am a super athlete and love the way I feel. I got my start after I had a baby. My friend (super thin) and I decided we would start running together. I think she felt sorry for me. We started with a 5k 2 months after delivering my son. Needless to say our (race) times were beyond horrible.

We then ran and trained all summer long. Our times started to improve and then we thought we were ready for a 10k. So we did a Thanksgiving Day run in Jefferson City. We finished and said we thought we would never make it to a Half but we kept training. Come March we signed up for our first half. We went out on an extremely flat course and were able to start 30 minutes early as first timers. We made it back in one piece and decided to chase our times with another Half.

We signed up for the GO Girl Run in Columbia. We get there and hear that the first mile is all uphill with a pretty steep grade. Throughout the course we ran several big hills. We each made it to the finish improving our times from the previous flat course.

I was good with running half’s. My best friend pushes me every day to do better and compete harder. If I didn’t have her with me pushing me I would only be a 5k girl. It is with her love, support, encouragement, and bada-- attitude that keeps me going.

We have only done one other marathon in Joplin and every time I wanted to stop I thought of what she would say if she was right next to me running. She is my motivator!!

When I saw Bass Pro was doing a run I was beyond ecstatic. Any chance I get to go to Springfield I go and I always make time to stop at Bass Pro Shops.

I will be there Sunday morning with my best friend ready to run the streets of Springfield. I am also bringing a few fellow teachers who are running the Half.
