The Fishers Police Department is investigating after parents reported a man approached their children Monday, asking them if they wanted a ride to school.

According to a Hamilton Southeastern Schools alert sent to parents Monday, the parents reported that a white male driving a red car stopped at bus stops in the Sunlake Apartment Complex, located at 126th Street and State Road 37, around 7 a.m.

Police said the suspect approached a group of high school students and asked them if they wanted a ride to school.

"The kids told him that they were going to wait on the school bus and the man drove away," Fishers Police Officer Tom Weger said.

The kids immediately told their parents. The alert went out after parents called the schools to report the incident.

"We had elementary kids that were going to be headed to the bus stops so we wanted to get the information out to parents as quickly as possible," said Michael Beresford of Hamilton Southeastern Schools.

School officials urged parents to speak with their children about safety practices and to call 911 to report any suspicious activity.

Police planned extra patrols at bus stops in the Fishers area.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Fishers Police Department at 317-595-3300.
