SPRINGFIELD (AP) - A federal judge sentenced former Everton postmaster Wayne Misner to five months in prison for misusing nearly $53,000 in postal money. The money was collected in 2006 for stamps and other mailing products. The judge also ordered Misner, who says the money was stolen in a burglary, to spend five months on house arrest, serve three years' probation and pay $43,000 in restitution.

WALKER, Mo. -- A 6-month-old girl died after a house fire in Vernon County. Taylor Shaner died in a hospital in Kansas City on Monday following the house fire on Sunday.
Her dad, Christopher Shaner, pulled Taylor and a male toddler out of the burning home south of Walker before rescuers arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation but sheriff's deputies believe a space heater in the baby's bedroom may have started it.
The sheriff said the father had put more wood in a stove before going outside to do some chores, and ran inside after spotting the fire.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Jury selection is scheduled to begin Tuesday in the trial of a woman from Missouri who is accused of an Internet hoax linked to a teen's suicide. Lori Drew of O'Fallon is charged with one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing computers without authorization.
Prosecutors say Drew pretended to be a teenage boy and harassed a 13-year old neighbor through a My Space account. The girl's parents say she committed suicide after receiving messages from Drew -- posing as that young boy -- that said the world would be better off without her.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Arkansas received a $216,000 grant to help pay for cleanup costs after the remnants of Hurricane Gustav hit the state. The National Emergency Grant will create temporary jobs devoted to cleaning up, renovating or demolishing buildings in Conway, Dallas and Perry counties.

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Oral Roberts University is laying off about 100 employees, after agreeing to a nearly $450,000 separation agreement with its former president. Richard Roberts stepped down last year amid allegations that he misspent school funds to live in luxury. The school says the layoffs and settlement are unrelated.
