SPRINGFIELD -- Cam Thieme of Great Southern Travel says you can find bargains if you can make last-minute travel plans. The best values right now are cruises.

Thieme says Alaskan cruises have slashed cabin rates by $600 - $700. She also suggests looking at all-inclusive resorts, especially with charters leaving from St. Louis.

Thieme says the Dominican Republic is the new destination hot spot. Travelers can also save big by combining a flight with a discount carrier with a short road trip. Thieme said she recently booked a flight on Allegiant Airlines out of Springfield to Clearwater, FL for $152.
