"I was crying constantly. I couldn't even talk on the phone. I've never had that much emotion in my whole life. It was awful," said Meadows.

Through Facebook, Meadows and her husband, Nathan, learned Charline was alive and the entire orphanage was still standing. Their focus then shifted to how they were going to get her home.

"We have a baby down there who's legally ours and there's nothing we can do. We can't fly there, we can't go get her, it's just you wait. And to see all the devastation, to see all the death, it was horrible," said Meadows.

The Meadowses heard the news reports. Food was scarce; there were looters; crime and tremors from the quake meant the the orphan babies and nannies had to sleep outside.

"And that was so terrifying for us because we've been there twice and it's not the safest place to be on a good day," said Meadows.

"There were a lot of problems going to happen, disease and death if these kids didn't get out," said Meadows.

They called Sen. Kit Bond and Congressman Roy Blunt in efforts to get her home quickly, and it worked. Eleven days later Nathan Meadows flew to Florida to pick up their little girl.

"For the U.S. to step up and get something going, get humanitarian parole, get that issued and get these kids on a plane and get them home is unbelievable," said Lindsay Meadows.

Lindsay describes it as "beyond wonderful" that Charline made it out of Haiti safely and is now home in her arms.
