The Myths about BOTOX
Myth : Botox Cosmetic is unsafe.
Fact: BOTOX has been used therapeutically for 17 years. The same formulation received DFA approval in 2002 for treatment of the moderate to severe frown lines (aka 11’s) between the brows.

Myth: There are creams that are better than BOTOX Cosmetic.
Fact: Topical creams work on the surface of the skin. BOTOX Cosmetic works on the powerful muscles between the skin that actually cause frown lines to form. Once the muscles relax, the skin can relax and subsequently smooth out.

Myth: BOTOX Cosmetic will leave me with a frozen face.
Fact: Although the results are visible, a treatment with Botox does not make you look like “you’ve had work done.” The muscle that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised with the wrinkles and creases.

Myth: BOTOX is only for the “rich and famous”, real people like me don’t use it.
Fact: According to a recent survey of 1048 BOTOX patients:
1) working mothers between the ages of 40 and 55 are the most common users of BOTOX.
2) Those with annual household incomes of less than $100,000 (44%) were more likely to use BOTOX than those with annual incomes of more than $150,000 (35%).

Myth: There’s no way to know that I’m getting authentic BOTOX Cosmetic instead of something else.
Fact: Your doctor can identify a vial of authentic BOTOX by the imprinted “Allergan” hologram on the label.

Myth: BOTOX isn’t for men.
Fact: Men constitute nearly 10% of the all BOTOX treatments and that number has grown considerably in the last 5 years.

Myth: Some aesthetic procedures can leave light spots on dark skin. BOTOX Cosmetic is probably no different.
Fact: BOTOX Cosmetic works only on the underlying muscles, so it can be administered to adults with varying skin types and colors.

Myth: Is I stop using BOTOX Cosmetic, my face will look different than before.
Fact: The effects of BOTOX Cosmetic can last up to 4 months. When the drug wears off, your face will return to its pretreatment condition. Many people choose to continue regular treatments ( typically 2 to 3 times per year).

The Hairy Truth
Leg hair doesn’t grow faster if you shave often or if it’s cold, experts say. Also, shaving hair on any part of the body doesn’t make it grow back darker or more coarse.

Q: Will shaving hair off your face—or other body parts—make it grow back faster, darker and more coarse? Should you only wax or use hair-removal creams?
A: Hair grows at a predetermined rate. The only difference between shaving, waxing or other hair removal procedures is that shaving gives the hair a blunt end. Waxing pulls the hair out by the root, removing it from deeper inside the follicle.

Q: Does leg hair grow faster when you’re cold or if you shave often?
A: No, your hair follicles below the skin have nothing to do with what’s going on at the skin’s surface. A hair follicle doesn’t know if that hair is a foot long or whether you just shaved or waxed.

Did you know this about Cellulite?
Genetics are a factor of cellulite. If your mother had it, chances are, you will too. You can minimize the appearance by eating a fiber-rich diet, massage can improve fluid drainage and regular exercise. Some causes for cellulite are oily fried foods, smoking and not enough exercise.

Aside from Botox, we now offer Dysport, an injectible treatment similar to Botox that is now available in the Springfield market. Dermal Fillers we provide include: Radiesse, Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Evolence.
