Here is a sample of some of the grocery inspection reports from 2007 in Greene, Christian and Taney counties that KY3 News examined to see the kinds of problems that are found. Each report is from the Missouri Department of Agriculture's Division of Weights and Measures. Inspectors check scales, price scanners, country of origin, egg inspections, milk inspections, and weight of prepackaged things like ground beef and steak.
Here’s a legend for the inspection reports.
Price Scanners: self explanatory.
Meat Inspections: if too many items weigh in the store's favor, inspectors will check the disprove box and, in the comments, they’ll write what they ordered the store to do to correct the problem.
Scale Inspections: A= Accepted; D=Deleted (the store got rid of that scale). If it says “Not Sealed,” that means the store paid for an inspection. Even though the scale is not an “official” weight, this is usually done for scales in vegetable departments. The official weight would be the scale at the register.
R=Rejected/Reinspection If it is rejected, the store then has to have a licensed person come to fix the scale, and then it has to be re-inspected.
