Judge sends broad daylight attack case to trial court

By Gene Hartley

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- A Polk County associate circuit judge ruled there is enough evidence for a trial for a teenager charged with attacking a college student. Danny Pilkinton Jr. (left) had a preliminary hearing on Monday on charges of first-degree assault and forcible rape.

Investigators believe the 17-year-old man attacked a 21-year-old woman after he threw a rock at her face about 3:00 p.m. on May 4. The Southwest Baptist University student was jogging on the Ozark Greenways Trail on the edge of Bolivar. The victim’s jaw and neck were broken and she said she was raped twice.

Pilkinton remains in the Polk County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond. His first appearance in circuit court is scheduled for next week.

Bolivar police arrested Pilkinton shortly after the attack because people in the area saw him and described him to officers. Police say the victim picked Pilkinton out of a photo lineup.
