SPRINGFIELD -- The president
and chief executive officer of CoxHealth sent a memo to his 9,000 employees this
week. Robert Bezanson refuted
federal prosecutors’ statements that the health care company isn't cooperating
with an investigation of some of its Medicare billing practices.
In court documents filed in a
civil lawsuit against CoxHealth in which the government intervened, the federal
prosecutors said CoxHealth has mischaracterized and overstated its cooperation
in an investigation into whether doctors were being paid for services they
didn't provide. In his memo,
Bezanson calls those charges disappointing and untrue.
The CEO says he and the company are doing everything they can to
cooperate with the government's investigation.
