EL DORADO SPRINGS, Mo. -- The Cedar County Sheriff's Department believes a burglary on Sunday night twisted into an assault and kidnapping. The victim at the center of the investigation is a 15-year-old boy.
Four people are in custody and, as of Monday evening, charges were filed against Bradley Keith. He's charged with armed criminal action, kidnapping, assault and attempted burglary.
"Two men came out from the back of the house asI hopped out of the car," said Bryant Getz-Reel, who interrupted the robbery at his home.
Getz-Reel says his girlfriend’s father drove him home on Sunday night, where he found a group of people trying to break into his house.
A fight broke out between two of the men against his driver, who then left to call police. Next, Bryant says, he was the target.
"He then punched me," said Getz-Reel. "He grabbed me and made me get in his car."
Bryant says his kidnappers drove him around for a couple hours. Car problems forced them to stop and he took advantage of the opportunity.
"I opened the door and took off running to my friend’s house,” he said.
His description of the vehicle and the burglars helped law officers find the four suspects within seven hours. They were at a home in neighboring Vernon County.
Bryant says he was not strong enough to fight them off but luckily he was fast enough to get away.
The Reels know one of the suspects. The Cedar County Sheriff’s Department is also trying to find out if the burglars were there to steal something or to assault the owner of the home.
