SPRINGFIELD -- A man who is charged in four counties for several sexual offenses against children keeps posting bonds and getting out of jail.  That has some law enforcement officers fearing the worst.

Last week, Larry Savage posted a $200,000 bond in Springfield despite a prosecutor’s efforts to keep him in jail.  In other counties, Savage argued to have his bonds reduced and judges agreed.  This last time, a Greene County judge wouldn't reduce the bond on Savage’s most recent charges but he still got out of the county jail.

"It’s my belief that he's a danger to the community and a flight risk,” said Greene County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Russ Dempsey.

Savage lived in Nixa when he was charged in two counties last August but now may live in Strafford.  He has become a headache for law enforcement officers in the Ozarks.

"Currently we have him charged with second-degree statutory rape and charged with incest; we also have him charged with use of a child in a sexual performance,” said Dempsey.

Savage could receive seven-year and four-year prison sentences for those charges if he’s convicted.  Savage faces 20 charges altogether from prosecutors in the four counties.

"We found that he had approximately $200,000 worth of bonds in other cases in other jurisdictions,” said Dempsey.

Savage is charged with crimes against minors in Greene, Christian, Webster and Newton counties.  The charges in some cases are for acts that may have happened a few years ago.  They include forcing children and teens into sex acts with Savage and other adults, to commit bestiality with a dog and even to expose themselves to people.  He's also charged with inflicting emotional abuse on children.

Some of the acts were videotaped.  Investigators say many of the additional crimes happened when Savage was out on bond for other crimes.

"In this case, because of all the other counts in the other jurisdiction, his flight risk, his potential danger to the community, to the victim in this case, we made the decision to use that unusually high bond of $200,000 to keep him in,” said Dempsey.  "Based on all the information the judge heard, he decided that the $200,000 bond was adequate.

"During the bond hearing, his defense attorney did state that he had lost his job at one point due to some of these charges in another county."

According to court documents, the bond wasn't high enough to keep Savage behind bars.  Someone helped him post bond again.

"I just hope the community is safe even though he is out on bond,” said Dempsey.

Savage has court appearances scheduled in September, October and December for the various cases against him.  Defense attorney Dee Wampler of Springfield said he couldn’t comment on the pending cases.
