Two more face charges for Freda Heyn's murder

By Gene Hartley

OZARK, Mo. -- Law officers arrested a woman on Friday and are seeking a second man for the murder of a woman from Oldfield in 2003.  Paula Hall and Billy W. Hall, who have different addresses in or near Sparta, are the second and third persons charged in a week for the murder of Freda Heyn.

Paula Hall is charged with first-degree murder and Billy Hall is charged with second-degree murder.  According to a detective's probable cause statement filed with the charges, the man charged on Oct. 20, David D. Epperson, told detectives that Billy Hall brought Heyn to Epperson's home near Oldfield on Sunday evening, Nov. 2, 2003, and Heyn was bleeding from an injury.  Epperson said Paula Hall was at his home doing some routine cleaning.

After Billy Hall and Heyn arrived, Epperson told the detective, Paula Hall went outside on the front porch and hit Heyn in the head with an object, causing her to fall on the ground.   Epperson then said Paula Hall hit Heyn in the head three or four more times with the same object.

Epperson said he and the Halls then went to clean up Heyn's trailer in Oldfield, where Epperson cut his finger and bled.  Epperson said the trio then went back to Epperson's home, where Heyn was dead on the ground.

Epperson is charged with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.  Investigators found his DNA in Heyn's trailer.

Heyn's family reported her missing on Nov. 7, 2003.  Her body turned up in the Mark Twain National Forest near Garrison, south of Sparta, in April 2004.

Paula Hall, 39, is in the Christian County jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.  A judge issued a warrant for Billy Hall's arrest on Friday.  When he's arrested, his bond also will be $500,000.  He's also wanted for a federal firearms charge, according to the Christian County Sheriff's Department.  Anyone with information on Billy Hall can call the sheriff's department at (417) 581-2332 or (417) 581-1519, or the Missouri State Highway Patrol (417) 895-6868.
