ST. LOUIS -- Missouri health officials say they've confirmed the first case of a tick-borne disease this year. A St. Louis-area woman in her 80s was hospitalized with the illness but is recovering.

She has ehrlichiosis, a rare disease that can cause renal failure or death if left untreated. Doctors prescribe antibiotics once it's diagnosed.
