It appears the shooting at Fort Hood, Texas is an isolated incident so security at Fort Leonard Wood hasn't changed, but some wonder what is to prevent a mass shooting from happening here.
"It's unbelievable," said Kyla Ashton.
"Total amazement and shock," said Miranda Brook.
"I mean any kind of tragedy like that is really scary," said Ashton.
The tragedy at Fort Hood hit a little too close to home for those who have friends and loved ones stationed at the Killeen, Texas post.
"Just needed to know that he was safe and he was, and we ended our conversation," said Joe James.
The shooting rampage also raises concerns for people who live near Fort Leonard Wood.
"If it happened there, it sure as heck could happen here," said Brook.
Military installations are considered some of the most secure places in America.
"Since 9-11 they check id cards all the time, you get random inspections where they search your car. They look underneath your car. They look in your car, it's all very lock down," said Ashton.
But the shooting rampage in Texas was an inside job, an officer about to be deployed, apparently stressed about going to war. Some know all too well what that stress can do to a person.
"First hand I do because I've been there. I've been to Iraq. I'm former military myself so my whole thing is, I don't know the guy, but for me if I was under that much stress, I would be going to seek some help," said Brook.
The public affairs officer at Fort Leonard Wood said they're currently monitoring the situation at Fort Hood and if the situation warrants, they will change their procedures.
