From The Joplin Globe, via The Associated Press:

MONETT, Mo. -- Cleanup continues here; emergency management say at least 70 businesses and 15 trailer homes had some damage after heavy rain fell over the weekend.

David Compton, emergency management director for Barry and Lawrence counties, said between 8 and 9 inches of rain fell in Monett, with areas northeast of the town reporting up to a foot of rain. The National Weather Service says there were voluntary evacuations at the Marshall Mobile Home Park on Saturday night. Compton said the water had receded by Sunday evening and all roads were open.

From KY3 News:

MONETT, Mo. -- Heavy rainfall throughout Saturday caused headaches for people in Monett and nearby areas of southern Lawrence and northern Barry Counties. The area received a radar-estimated 12 inches of rain in a short time period near Monett, causing streets and businesses downtown to flood.

Residents reported rain gauge readings of 7.75 to 8.9 inches within a few miles of Monett. An estimated 11 inches of rain fell in southeastern Lawrence County near Marionville.

Owners worked late into the night sandbagging the perimeter of their businesses to keep the water at bay. By sunrise Sunday, they were cleaning up and assessing the damage.
