Many racers stopped off to fill up their tanks before making the long trip home. It was a big, national motocross event and though many people heard the rain was coming, they didn't expect a washout.
"It sucks," said 15-year-old Andrew Wilkerson.
Like Wilkerson, many racers looked forward to the motocross event and planned to camp out the entire weekend, then came the torrential downpour.
"It just started raining, we had to evacuate because of the flood," said Wilkerson.
The dirt bike track turned into a muddy mess. On top of that, fear of the James River overflowing.
"It's pretty soupy," said firefighter, Capt. Justin Baker.
Workers had to use bulldozers and tractors to pull the RVs out of the mud while firefighters directed traffic.
It was long night for everyone involved.
