CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. -- A Christian County driver gets stuck in flood waters and a good Samaritan is there to help.

Despite warnings from emergency officials and our own meteorologists, it seems like this is an inevitable consequence of flooding.

This is the type of decision that leaves emergency officials shaking their heads -- driving into a low-water crossing that's obviously flooded.

A 22-year-old did just that in Christian County Friday afternoon.  He got stuck on Riverdale Drive between Highlandville and Nixa.

Fortunately, with the help of a bystander and a man with a pick-up truck, Buddy, who didn't disclose his last name, was able to escape.

"Sure enough I came up over the hill and there's a car in the middle of the low spot under water," said Terry Barber, a Nixa resident who stopped to help.

The 22-year-old and his girlfriend were able to escape unscathed.

But his car was water-logged and would not start.

Water filled up over the seats and poured out the doors.

"What was I thinking? Really wasn't thinking," said Buddy.

In Christian County, there are nearly two dozens that remain under water after the heavy rains, according to emergency management officials. 

Barber has seen the water rise before and that's why he knows to turn around.

"I'm a lifelong Nixa guy. I wouldn't have drove through that water," he said.

But apparently for Buddy, this poor decision hasn't sunk in just yet.

Has he learned his lesson -- to turn around and not drown?

"Most likely, Most likely not. I dunno yet," he said, with a smile.
