ROGERSVILLE, Mo. -- When Rogersville won its first ever district championship this past week, Colton Dill was in his usual leadership role: dousing his head coach with celebratory ice water. Dill also leads the way for the Wildcats as a dual-threat quarterback. So far this season, he's passed for more than 700 yards and run for almost 600 yards in leading an 8-1 team that's averaging 30 points per game.
"It all starts with the quarterback," Rogersville head coach Doug Smith said. "Any coach will tell you you've got to have a trigger man, and he's done a great job for us." "It's been an amazing ride," said Dill, who's been a major part of the Wildcats rise from the outhouse to the penthouse. When Dill first moved to Rogersville from Kickapoo in the Springfield School District, the Wildcats were a football weakling, having never qualified for the playoffs. Dill and his other senior classmates started to change that losing culture even before they got to the varsity level. "My age group actually was undefeated my freshman year," Dill said. "And that's why we kind wanted to come out here and make it like it is now. That's what we were hoping for." They're not satisfied after making it to the quarterfinals in their first trip to the playoffs last year. "We're hungry," said Dill. "We want to go get a state championship!" Most Popular
