WAYNESVILLE, Mo. -- Waynesville's Kristine Grube isn't old enough to drive but thankfully she did.
On the way to school Tuesday, Kristine's father, Jeff, blacked out behind the wheel. With him unconscious, the family van was drifting off the road.
"I was yelling at my daddy," Kristine said. "I saw a pole. I said oh no, I have to turn quick."
The 9-year-old grabbed the wheel, steering the van between two phone poles and missed a third.
Police say without her quick reaction, the van would have rammed into one of the poles, or veered into oncoming, morning-traffic.
"My little girl is a hero," Jeff Grube said. "She saved my life, saved her life and her sister's."
"Everywhere I go people say, 'there goes that hero," Kristine said. "I'm just glad I saved my family."
Jeff's being treated at Fort Leonard Wood General Hospital. At this time, it's unknown why the 30-year-old father blacked out behind the wheel. Grube said his family has a history of high cholesterol.
