SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A string of hot day this week could create a dangerous situation for very young people and very old people. That's why one local health company asks for your help in collecting box fans.

Heat-related illnesses in senior citizens are huge problems. Often times, seniors will be on medications that make it even harder for them to stay cool.

Oxford Health Care has been collecting fans and dropping them off to seniors who are in need. Oxford says, with cuts in government funding sources that used to provide these type of services, more people than ever need assistance. The company has more than 100 people on a waiting list for fans. Nurses will also go and educate seniors on how to stay cool.

Box fans at most retail stores run about $15. You can drop off the new fan or cash at any Oxford health location.
