Super Bowl - 2000

Super Bowl XXXIV -- 2000

The Team: Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Toni Braxton, 80-person choir, with an assist by Edward James Olmos

The Playbook: "The Greatest Show on Turf" came to the Super Bowl as the St. Louis Rams took on the Tennesse Titans in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The "Tapestry of Nations" started off with the big voice of Christina Aguilera dueting with the sultry sounds of Enrique Iglesias ("Celebrate the Music"). The event featured internationally flavored staging complete with people and figures on stilts performing the great "Millennium Walk." Edward James Olmos provided the narration between sets, then Phil Collins took the stage. Understated but solid, his song led to a quick drum solo, then Toni Braxton was allotted a bit of stage time. Christina, Enrique, Phil and lots of kids (not Michael Jackson-sized) surrounded the stage. Fireworks ... and scene.

The Result: punt. Except for Christina, there wasn't a lot of fire in the vocals, and the international/alien images didn't inspire "wow," but more of a "what"?
