National Park Service Recovers Fuel Pods, Debris in Northwest Alaska

( Courtesy National Park Service / October 24, 2012 ) The National Park Service says it has completed a five-year-long project to recover heavy debris, including fuel pods dropped by military fighter jets in the 1970s, from areas it oversees in Northwest Alaska. The fuel pods were flown to ranger stations and villages by helicopters with Fairbanks-based Quicksilver Air, then taken to Anchorage using donated cargo space on Bering Air and Lynden Air Cargo flights. |
